Kalani High School senior Iwalani Rodrigues signed a National Letter of Intent this morning to play basketball for the University of Utah next season, The Advertiser has learned.

Rodrigues, a 5-foot-9 1/2 guard/forward who was an Advertiser All-State first team selection after playing for Roosevelt last season, said she chose Utah over Hawai'i. She also received offers from Idaho State, Virginia Tech and Pepperdine.

Today is the first day seniors are allowed to sign letters of intent.

Four Kamehameha girls volleyball players signed this afternoon during a brief ceremony at the school's administration building.

Kanani Herring signed with Hawai'i, Jordan Meredith signed with Boston College, Tatiana Santiago signed with Nevada and Rebecca Torres with the University of Pacific.

Three athletes from Punahou also signed: Jeeter Ishida (baseball, Arizona State), Sydney Yogi (women's volleyball, Texas) and Erik Shoji (volleyball, Stanford).

Also, Moanalua's Sarah Robinson signed a letter of intent to play for the Hawai'i softball team and 'Iolani's Brad Lawson signed with Stanford to play volleyball.
