Advertiser Staff

An elderly pedestrian was critically injured today when he was struck by a station wagon while crossing Kalaniana'ole Highway near Wa'a Street in East Honolulu.

The victim, 85, was in a marked crosswalk, said traffic investigator Sgt. John Agno.

The accident occurred at 10:54 a.m.

A woman, 82, who was driving the 2003 Saturn station wagon, was not injured, according to Agno.

The station wagon was traveling west in the second of three highway lanes when it struck the pedestrian, said Agno. There is no traffic signal where the crosswalk is located, Agno added.

The man suffered injuries to his head, torso and legs and was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in critical condition, according to Agno.
