International hula conference kicks off in Hawaii

The first International Waikiki Hula Conference kicks off at the Hawai'i Convention Center today, with various hula and hula-related workshops, lectures, and craft demonstrations.

A complete schedule can be found at www.waikikihulaconference.com. The Hula Preservation Society ( www.hulapreservation.org) will be making a presentation at the conference, as well as documenting the conference.

Although only paid participants and media are allowed at the conference, the public is invited to watch the evening shows at various locations throughout Waikiki, as students present what they have learned, as part of a larger hula show produced by their na kumu hula. Here's the schedule:
