Hawaii-based soldier killed Tuesday in Iraq

Pfc. Casey P. Mason, of Lake, Mich., died in Mosul of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his unit using small-arms fire, Pentagon officials said. He was based at Schofield Barracks.

A 22-year-old Schofield Barracks-based soldier was killed in Iraq Tuesday, the Department of Defense announced today.

Pfc. Casey P. Mason, of Lake, Mich., died in Mosul of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his unit using small-arms fire, Pentagon officials said.

Mason joined the Army in October 2006 and was assigned to the 728th Military Police Battalion, 8th Military Police Brigade, 8th Theater Sustainment Command, Schofield Barracks, Hawai'i.

A memorial service will be held next week at Schofield Barracks.
