'Shelter the People' walk concludes tomorrow

Advertiser Staff

A 10-day charity walk around the island to raise awareness about homelessness will finish up at the state Capitol tomorrow with a rally.

Walk the Talk — Shelter the People, a 130-mile walk around O'ahu, kicked off Nov. 7 from the Capitol.

The walk raises money for homeless programs, including a plan to convert buses into shelters for the homeless, and also gets the word out about the growing need for more affordable housing in the Islands.

The last day of the walk starts in Waipahu.

Participants will walk about 13 miles to the state Capitol, arriving there by about 4:30 p.m. The final mile of the event will start at Our Lady of Peace Cathedral, at Bishop and Beretania streets.

The rally will follow the conclusion of the walk.
