$5,000 grants awarded to Hawaii arts organizations

Mayor Mufi Hannemann announced yesterday the city has awarded grants of $5,000 each to several nonprofit organizations under the Mayor's Production Grant Program.

In its third year, the grant program supports the production of new works in dance, theater, music and literature that will be part of each organization's future repertoire.

This year's awardees are:

  • Alliance for Drama Education, for the production of T-Shirt Theatre's "Tree'd"

  • Bamboo Ridge Press, for the publication of "The Way Islands are Linked by Ocean"

  • Chamber Music Hawaii, for the composition of a new work in celebration of its 25th anniversary

  • Dance Pioneers, for the dance production "3 Emerge"

  • Kauakoko Foundation, for the production of a Hawaiian music CD entitled "Journeys"
