Operation Homefront of Hawaii, which was collecting Hawai'i-themed items to send to troops overseas, shipped more than 60 boxes of nuts, candies and Hawaiian gifts in time for the holiday season, said Vickie Cariello, who organized the collection.

The boxes weighed 2,011 pounds and had enough goodies to distribute to 1,500 deployed military personnel, Cariello said. The gift boxes were shipped to Iraq, Afghanistan and Djibouti, Africa to Marines, airmen, soldiers and sailors as well as reservists and National Guard members, she said.
