Three area gymnasts take medals at event

 •  Traditional event now has competitive spice in mix

Three athletes from Honolulu earned medals at the Trampoline Age Group World Championships in Quebec City last weekend.

Nani Vercruyssen captured gold in the 15-16 girls individual trampoline, getting 35.80 points.

The sophomore at Roosevelt High School also won the double mini trampoline, posting 67.00 points.

Kelsen Onigama captured the gold medal in the boys 11-12 double mini trampoline with 66.20 points.

Onigama, a seventh-grader at Kalakaua Intermediate School, also placed sixth in the boys individual trampoline, scoring 29.50 points in the final. He teamed with Matthew Pettus to finish fifth in the synchronized event, posting 37.30 points.

Spencer Dupio, a junior at Roosevelt High, captured the bronze medal in the boys 15-16 double mini trampoline, scoring 64.40 in the final.

MAUI'S NAGASAKO TAKES SEVENTH AT EVENT

Maui Pro In-line skater Thumper Nagasako finished seventh at the World Championships of Action Sports Saturday in Dallas.

"I landed all my tricks which I was satisfied with, but not with the amplitude I'd done in practice," Nagasako said in an e-mail. "I did well but next year I feel I'll do better."
