Fans, scouts want to see QB

 •  Colt Brennan's status? Wait till kickoff

RENO, Nev. — If University of Hawai'i quarterback Colt Brennan doesn't play tonight, there will be a lot of disappointed people.

"We've got over 50 — relatives and friends," said Terry Brennan, Colt's father. "They're coming from all over California.

"I'm on my way to get some more tickets now," Brennan said after UH's afternoon practice yesterday.

Nor, apparently, will they be the only ones if Brennan isn't cleared to play against Nevada after suffering a concussion in Saturday's victory over Fresno State.

A Nevada spokesman said at least 25 NFL scouts have sought credentials for the game.

"Mostly because it is their last chance to see him play here (on the Mainland)," said Chad Hartley. "Although some are coming to see our (linebacker) Ezra Butler, too," Hartley said.

Nevada officials said they expect their second largest crowd of the season for the game. The annual Fremont Cannon rivalry game with Nevada-Las Vegas drew 25,268 in September to see the Wolf Pack win, 27-20.

Hartley said a crowd of approximately 23,000 is expected in 29,964-seat Mackay Stadium.

SPREAD AT 7 TO 8

John Pinto of the sports book at the Silver Legacy hotel said oddsmakers are "expecting Brennan to play" otherwise the betting spread (currently at 7 to 8 points) "would have come out about Hawai'i three (points)."

Despite the fact that no line was posted until Wednesday due to Brennan's medical status, Pinto said "right now we're seeing a lot of Hawai'i money. Come (today) it will be Hawai'i money since we get a good draw (of) people from Hawai'i at the hotel."

THINGS WILL GET CHILLY

The weather forecast for today is for partly cloudy skies and a high of 60 and low of 35 with winds of 5 to 10 mph. The forecast for the 8 p.m. (Nevada time) kickoff is to be 45 to 50 degrees.
