Kauai submits updated solid waste management plan

Advertiser Staff

LIHU'E — County officials recently submitted a draft Integrated Solid Waste Management Plan to the state Department of Health for the departments initial review.

The updated plan is the county's blueprint for short- and long-term management of its municipal solid waste programs.

The draft plan is a culmination of research and planning by consultant R.W. Beck, the county administration, and a Solid Waste Advisory Committee selected by Mayor Bryan Baptiste, and is reflective of their goal to develop a financially feasible plan for residents and businesses of Kaua'i that maximizes waste diversion, is environmentally sustainable, and ensures access to adequate disposal capacity.

Once the Health Department concludes its review, the public will have 60 days to comment on the plan.
