Field hockey: N. Carolina tops Penn St. for NCAA title

Associated Press

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Undefeated North Carolina won its fifth NCAA title in field hockey today with a 3-0 victory over Penn State.

Katelyn Falgowski scored in the first half and Rachel Dawson and Danielle Forword had goals in the second half for the Tar Heels (24-0). They held Penn State (16-8) to three shots — one in the first half — in winning their first national title since 1997.

Goalkeeper Brianna O'Donnell picked up one save in the Tar Heels' 15th shutout of the season.
