Renovations close Maui center until March 10

Advertiser Staff

The Velma McWayne Santos Community Center, formerly known as the Wailuku Community Center, will be closed beginning today for extensive renovations, the Maui County parks department announced.

The center is scheduled to reopen March 10.

Renovations will include kitchen upgrades to stainless steel counters, new sinks and nonslip polyurethane-concrete floor resurfacing, the installation of vinyl composition-tile flooring and acoustic ceiling panels in the main hall, and replacement of upper jalousie windows.

The total design and construction cost for the project is $645,000. Kitchen improvements are being done by Central Construction Inc., with main hall work being done by David P. Ting & Sons.
