Advertiser Staff

Gov. Linda Lingle released $625,000 for the design and construction of a new portable classroom for Baldwin High School's Special Education Occupational Skills program.

The program provides at-risk students with landscaping, cooking, cashiering, sewing and housekeeping instruction, as well as career guidance and community service opportunities. The program now operates out of a Quonset hut that is cannot be repaired.

The new extended trailer to be built will include classroom space, a kitchen, laundry room and restrooms. The cesspool being used by the existing classroom facility will be removed.

Design is scheduled to begin in January and be completed in September.
