Baseball: Cubs president quits to take Blackhawks job

CHICAGO — Chicago Cubs president John McDonough resigned today after a little more than a year on the job and was expected to take a similar position with the Chicago Blackhawks.McDonough took over as Cubs president on Oct. 1, 2006, after Andy MacPhail resigned. McDonough's background is in marketing and he had been with the Cubs since 1983, serving long stints as the club's marketing director and vice president for marketing and broadcasting.
With the Cubs up for sale, his future was uncertain.
Since the death of Blackhawks owner Bill Wirtz, his son, Rocky, has been revamping the team — reassigning senior vice president Bob Pulford and putting some home games on TV, something his father had refused to do.
