Kealakehe alum Mahelona signs with Falcons

Advertiser Staff and News Services

The Atlanta Falcons signed defensive tackle Jesse Mahelona, a Kealakehe High alum, to a free-agent contract today, according to the team's Web site.

Defensive tackles Rod Coleman (arm) and Trey Lewis (knee) were placed on injured reserve this morning, knocking out both starters for the rest of the season.

Montavious Stanley and Jonathan Babineaux will move into the starting lineup.

Mahelona, who played at Tennessee, was signed to give the Falcons depth.

Mahelona, of Kailua, Kona, was waived by the Dolphins last month.
