The Office of Hawaiian Affairs has awarded Volunteer Legal Services Hawai'i $24,000 to help fund a study to assess the need for legal services among Native Hawaiian small businesses. The study also will determine the extent that legal services are currently available to these businesses.
Last year, VLSH received a grant from OHA to begin an incubator pilot project to assist nonprofit agencies that serve the Native Hawaiian community.
"Both projects will help ensure that those who have the passion and drive to bring new services and income to Native Hawaiians have the tools they ned to succeed," said Moya Gray, VLSH executive director.
VLSH began 25 years ago to provide services to the poor, children and elderly. The organization also offers counseling to nonprofits that serve these groups.
