Kim, Kono win twice at Polo Golf Junior Classic

Kimberly Kim and Stephanie Kono each won their first two matches today at the Polo Golf Junior Classic at Ginn Reunion Resort's Palmer Course in Reunion, Fla.Kim, a former Big Island resident who now lives in Arizona, beat Pearl Jin of San Gabriel, Calif., 3 and 2, in her first-round match.
Kim then beat Sweden's Caroline Hedwall, 2 and 1. Kim will face Marina Alex of Wayne, N.J., in Thursday's quarterfinals.
Kono beat Alexis Thompson of Coral Springs, Fla., 2 and 1.
In her second-round match, Kono beat Tessa Teachman, of Baton Rouge, La., in 20 holes to advance to the quarterfinals. Kono will face Jaclyn Sweeney of Bradenton, Fla., Thursday.
