2-liter recycled bottles soon eligible for 5-cent refund

Advertiser Staff

Starting Dec. 1, 2-liter bottles will be included in the state's HI-5 beverage deposit container program.

Consumers will be charged 6 cents for all labeled 2-liter containers (64 to 68 fluid ounces), and can be redeemed for a 5-cents refund.

During December, January, and February, 2-liter containers will be accepted for redemption whether they are labeled with the HI-5¢ refund value or not. Below is a timeline for the phase-in of deposit containers sized 64.1 – 68 fluid ounces.

Dec. 1

Recycling Begins. Consumers may begin to redeem containers sized 64.1 to 68 fluid ounces for refunds regardless if the containers are labeled with the HI-5¢ refund value or not.

March 1, 2008

Only labeled HI-5¢ containers can be redeemed.

Consumers may only recycle containers holding up to 68 fluid ounces for refunds if the containers are labeled with the HI-5¢ refund value. All eligible deposit beverage containers sized 64.1 – 68 fluid ounces will be counted by hand for redemption until weight conversion rates are updated to include the new container sizes.
