City Lights tree lighting ceremony is Dec. 1

Advertiser Staff

The annual Mayor's Honolulu City Lights Tree Lighting Ceremony will take place on the grounds of Honolulu Hale on Dec. 1, mayor Mufi Hannemann said yesterday as he outlined details of the upcoming Christmas Season City Lights celebrations around Oahu.

"I'm thrilled to announce that Jim Nabors has accepted my personal invitation to join in the celebration this year," Hannemann said in a released statement. " For 10 years he and Karen Keawehawaii thrilled fans with their 'Friends and Nabors' holiday show at the Hawaii Theater. They've graciously agreed to come to Honolulu Hale and share their gift of song with the community."

The Dec. 1 event starts at 4 p.m. Saturday with food booths and keiki rides. At 5 p.m., there'll be a holiday music concert at the historic Kawaiahao Church. And then at 6 p.m., Hannemann and his wife will welcome the musical group Pali and special guests to help with the lighting of the official city Christmas tree.

Immediately following the tree lighting, the Public Workers Electric Light Parade will begin to pass in front of Honolulu Hale.
