Historical touches for Kona Christmas

The Kona Historical Society will host a series of activities to help celebrate the Christmas season at the H.N. Greenwell Store.

A presentation called "An English Christmas in the Hawaiian Kingdom" with music, light refreshments and a silent auction will be held at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 29.

On Dec. 1, Maile Melrose will give a first-person historical performance by playing the part of her great-grandmother, Elizabeth Caroline Greenwell, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission is $7 ($3 for children).

Floral artist Scott Seymour will help participants create an old-English flower arrangement, Hawaiian style, using fresh island foliage, on Dec. 5 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The charge is $40, which includes all materials and a light lunch. Call for reservations.

Artist Tomas Villa will help participants make Victorian Christmas cards, ornaments, and silhouettes on Dec. 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. All materials are included in the fee, which is $7 general and $3 for children.

Each event includes free admission to the Greenwell store. Call 323-3222 for information or to make reservations.
