HANA
Scenic Hana Highway rest stop reopens

Advertiser Staff

The Department of Land and Natural Resources reopened the Pua'a Ka'a State Wayside along Hana Highway following completion of $442,644 worth of improvements.

The comfort station was fixed up with new fixtures, accessible parking and signage, painting, cleaning, roof structure strengthening, and roofing. Work to improve accessibility to the mauka waterfall section includes pathway, handrail, picnic table and signage improvements.

A large-capacity cesspool was closed and a new septic tank and leachfield system constructed, along with paving and parking lot improvements.

Money for the project came from DLNR's capital improvement budget and the Hawai'i Tourism Authority.

Pua'a Ka'a Wayside, located 38 miles east of Kahului Airport, is a forested rest stop on five acres, with picnicking and small scenic waterfalls and pools.
