High surf advisory for north-facing shores

Advertiser Staff

The National Weather Service said the current high surf we're experience along north-facing shores will be reinforced by another larger series of swells on Friday from a very strong storm, putting the islands in a high surf advisory until 6 a.m. Sunday.

Surf along north-facing shores is expected to be 15 to 20 feet through Saturday, but 12 to 16 feet today.

A high surf advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in the advisory area, causing potentially dangerous conditions, rip currents and localized beach erosion.

Elsewhere today, surf along east-facing shores will be 4 to 6 feet, except locally higher along shores exposed to the north swell; surf along west-facing shores will diminish to heights of 5 to 8 feet; and surf along south-facing shores will remain 2 feet or less.
