No tsunami threat from New Guinea earthquake

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Ewa Beach said there is no tsunami threat for Hawaii following a 6.7 magnitude earthquake that struck the eastern New Guinea region late last night.

The earthquake struck 5.9 miles south and 147.2 miles east of eastern New Guinea at 10:49 p.m. (HST).

The warning center said that based on all available date a destructive Pacific-wide tsunami is not expected.
