HALE'IWA
Navy, residents teaming up to feed the homeless

Advertiser Staff

North Shore residents and the U.S. Navy are providing a Thanksgiving Day feast for the area's homeless and needy from 10 a.m. to noon today at the Waialua Community Association building on Kamehameha Highway across the street from the Hale'iwa post office.

North Shore businesses, churches and individuals have donated more than 40 turkeys, which are expected to feed 400 people. Chef Hector Morales of Turtle Bay Resort will roast the turkeys.

Volunteers from the U.S. Naval Computer and Telecommunications Area Master Station, Pacific will provide festive decorations and serve the meal during "Operation: Aloha."

"This is a wonderful event where the military and community work together as a team to provide a happy holiday feast for the growing homeless population on O'ahu's North Shore," said Pastor Ron Valenciana, of the Once A Month Church.
