Christmas song concert Sunday

Local elementary and high school choruses will join Leeward Community College's "Kanikapila Singers and Chorus Program" this Sunday for a concert of traditional and contemporary Christmas songs.

The holiday choral event is set for 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Leeward campus theater. Tickets are available at the door only. For more information, contact the campus ticket office, 455-0385 or go to http://LCCTheatre.hawaii.edu.

APPLY FOR SCHOOL MEALS PROGRAM

The Hawai'i Department of Education is encouraging all eligible families to apply for free and reduced-price school meals as supported by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program.

In DOE public schools, regular prices are $1.25 for lunch and 35 cents for breakfast. Eligible students can receive meals at no cost or reduced to 20 cents each for lunch or breakfast. Regular and reduced prices vary in participating charter and private schools.

Eligibility is based on household income. Participating schools have sent application forms to all homes with a letter to parents or guardians. BALDWIN HIGH FUNDS RELEASED

Gov. Linda Lingle has released $625,000 for the design and construction of a new portable classroom at Baldwin High School in Wailuku for the Maui school's Special Education Occupational Skills program.

Baldwin High School's Special Education Occupational Skills program provides at-risk students with landscaping, cooking, cashiering, sewing and housekeeping instruction, as well as career guidance and community service opportunities. The program currently operates out of a Quonset hut that is beyond financial repair. The new extended trailer will include classroom space, a kitchen, laundry room and restrooms.

UH WEST O'AHU OPENS CONTEST

Hawai'i high school students are invited to design entries for the University of Hawai'i- West O'ahu's Flyer Contest, which aims to promote UHWO as a top choice for college-bound students.

UH West O'ahu became a four-year comprehensive university this fall.

Online voters will select a grand prize winner from the top 10 finalists at uhwo.hawa ii.edu. The winning design will then be published in the May/June issue of Sassy/G Magazine, a bi-monthly Hawai'i teen magazine. Also, iPod Nanos will be given to 10 contest winners.
