Florida's Hurst beats Kim, Kono to win Polo Golf Junior

Advertiser Staff

Vicky Hurst of Melbourne, Fla., today beat Kimberly Kim, 3 and 2, in the final after outlasting Stephanie Kono to win on the 28th hole in the semifinals of the Polo Golf Junior Classic at Ginn Reunion Resort in Reunion, Fla.

Hurst never trailed Kim, a former Big Island resident in the final this morning. She built 4 up leads on the 11th and 14th holes. Kim closed it to 3 up with three holes remaining, but the golfers halved the No. 16 giving Hurst the victory.

The match between Hurst and Kono was postponed yesterday after 22 holes because of darkness. It ended on the 10th extra hole today when Kono bogeyed the 28th, giving Hurst the victory.

Hurst and Kim, who lives in Arizona, hold the top spots in the Polo Golf Rankings.

Kim defeated Marika Lendl of Bradenton, Fla., 3 and 1, yesterday in the semifinals.
