High surf expected for north, west-facing shores

Advertiser Staff

The National Weather Service issued a high surf advisory for north and west-facing shores today.

Surf along north-facing shores will rise to heights of 18 to 22 feet, with locally higher sets through today.

Along west-facing shores, heights of 10 to 15 feet are predicted.

Surf along south-facing shores will be 1 to 2 feet today, while east-facing shores will see heights of 4 to 6 feet, with locally higher sets, the weather service said.

A high surf advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in the advisory area, causing potentially dangerous conditions, rip currents and localized beach erosion.

The current swell is expected to slowly diminish over the weekend, but a second northwest swell should arrive by late Monday, peak early Tuesday near advisory levels, then slowly lower on Wednesday, the weather service said.
