Three young men were injured at least one of them critically when their motorcycles crashed on a winding stretch of Kaukonahua Road in Waialua today, officials now say.Police report that at least three motorcycles were involved in the crash that occurred shortly after 3 p.m. between Thompson Corner and Wilikina Road.
One man in his mid-20s was first taken to Wahiawa General Hospital in critical condition. He was stabilized there and then transferred to The Queen's Medical Center, said Bryan Cheplic, a spokesman for the Honolulu Emergency Medical Services Department.
Two other men both in their 20s were reported in serious condition following the crash. They were being treated at Queen's, Cheplic said.
The crash occurred on a deadly stretch of Kaukonahua Road known by local residents as Snake Road because of its many twists and turns on a long downhill stretch.
The accident occurred in the same stretch of road where a 14-year-old boy died and his older brother was injured late last month in a moped accident.
Kaukonahua Road was closed for hours but has been reopened.
