Police on Kaua'i said this afternoon they have arrested a 26-year-old Kalaheo man in connection with the hit-and-run accident that occurred on K?loa Road at around 2:45 this morning.

The pedestrian, a 24-year-old Kalaheo man, was walking on Koloa Road near Blackstad Road Junction when he was hit and sustained serious injuries, police said.

He was taken to Wilcox Hospital and then airlifted to The Queen's Medical Center on O'ahu.

Police said the driver left the scene without rendering aid.

Witnesses had reported seeing a white, older model Nissan sedan driving away toward Kalaheo after the man was hit.

Police had put out an appeal for help in finding the driver and reported at about 4 p.m. that they had found the driver and the car.

The man was charged with first-degree negligent injury, police said.
