Scalpers found tickets a hard sell

Advertiser Staff Writer

Online hawkers of tickets to yesterday's sold-out University of Hawai'i-Boise State game were asking prices ranging from $1,000 for a pair of front-row seats at the 35-yard line to considerably lower prices for humbler seats.

Some sellers such as Kane'ohe resident Les Manago said they were getting few inquiries from buyers. Manago was asking $250 for two tickets he bought for $200 as an early Christmas gift for his son before he realized his son had made other plans.

"I got a couple of calls, but nobody came through, so if it comes down to the wire, I'm just going to go down past my old neighborhood and just give it to somebody," Manago said yesterday morning.

A number of ticket offers on eBay received no bids, and tickets were still available at craigslist.org yesterday for $125 to $400 per seat.

As game time approached, some would-be sellers had a change of heart and decided to keep their tickets and watch the undefeated Warriors. One man who declined to give his name listed four tickets on craigslist.org for $1,500, figuring that if he could get that price, he would watch the game on TV.

After getting only a couple of calls, he decided to use the tickets himself.

Some of the ticket sellers said they were just trying to get their money back for seats they bought but couldn't use, and several said they were startled at the sky-high prices being asked on the Web for choice seats.

"You know what is really interesting?" Manago said. "The tickets for next week, because if they win, hoo, boy. You think this week is bad, watch next week."
