Kalihi man is Oahu's 13th motorcycle fatality

Advertiser Staff

A Kalihi man died last night at The Queen's Medical Center about five hours after crashing his motorcycle on Kaukonahua Road in Waialua at 3:04 p.m.

The Honolulu Medical Examiner's office today identified the man as Robert Moberg, 26. Moberg is the island's 59th traffic fatality and the 13th motorcyclist killed on O'ahu in 2007, all of them since March 21.

Moberg died at The Queen's Medical Center at 8:15 p.m.

Police vehicular homicide investigators said Moberg was riding with five other motorcyclists when he lost control of his 2002 Honda at a bend on winding Kaukonahua Road, about one-quarter mile south of Poamoho Street.

Moberg's motorcycle veered off the road, struck a right-side guardrail, spun back onto Kaukonahua and into the path of another Honda motorcycle. The impact forced the second Honda to hit a Kawasaki motorcycle, police said.

Moberg was ejected after his motorcycle hit the guardrail, police said.

All three motorcyclists were wearing helmets. The two others motorcyclists injured were taken to the hospital in serious condition, police said.
