  • Robert Midkiff is this year's recipient of The Fred Rogers Leadership Award in Philanthropy for Children, Youth and Families.

    In 1988, he helped create the Hawai'i Community Foundation. As chair of the education committee of the Robert E. Black Fund at the Hawai'i Community Foundation, he supported an initiative that increased positive outcomes for young children as a result of small preschools receiving targeted guidance and financial support to enhance the quality of their programs.

    As president of the Atherton Family Foundation, he continues to encourage meaningful grant making to early childhood programs and intermediaries supporting early childhood policy and advocacy.

  • An Exemplary Achievement Award was presented to Frank Bantell of Honolulu by the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center San Diego, Systems Activity Pacific. Bantell is the lead systems engineer on the staff of Commander, Pacific Fleet. His computer network development has been critical to the U.S. Navy fleet.

    SSC San Diego Systems Activity Pacific is at Pearl Harbor, but headquartered in San Diego. It develops and delivers real-world command, control, communications, computers, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance technologies to the military

  • The National Association of Town Watch has selected 'Ewa Beach as a National Award Winner for its outstanding participation in the 24th Annual National Night Out crime, drug and violence prevention program.

    The 'Ewa Beach event was held on Aug. 10 at the 'Ewa Beach Boys and Girls Club parking lot. It was attended by about 900 neighborhood security watch members.
