Man, 26, charged in Kauai hit-and-run

Advertiser Staff

Police on Kaua'i said they have arrested a man suspected of being the hit-and-run driver who struck a man walking on Koloa Road around 2:45 a.m. yesterday morning near Blackstad Road Junction.

Police arrested a 26-year-old Kalaheo man yesterday afternoon and charged him with first-degree negligent injury.

The pedestrian, a 24-year-old Kalaheo man, sustained serious injuries. He was taken to Wilcox Hospital and then airlifted to The Queen's Medical Center on O'ahu.

Police said the driver left the scene without rendering aid.

Witnesses reported seeing a white, older model Nissan sedan driving away toward Kalaheo after the man was hit. Police had put out an appeal for help in finding the driver and reported at about 4 p.m. that they had found the suspect and what they believe is the car involved.
