Great Santa Run: Runners, walkers and jolly friends attempt to break the world record for Largest Santa Gathering and raise funds for Las Vegas' charity, Opportunity Village. Event begins at 8 a.m. with live entertainment for all ages. The 5K and 1-mile events begin at 10 a.m. www.opportunityvillage.org

Tree lighting at Fremont Street Experience: The Holiday Festival at Fremont Street Experience features a holiday tree, a March of the Toy Soldiers procession, photos with Santa Claus and a holiday light and sound show featuring 2.1 million lights on the Fremont Street Experience canopy nightly throughout the event. Activities are free and there will be something for the entire family to enjoy this holiday season. The traffic is closed in some areas and many streets are blocked off, so plan on arriving in plenty of time if you want to attend this event.

Fremont Street Festival Bright Lights on Ice: Accompanied by an illusion of falling snow, professional figure skaters perform from the iced platform of the 3rd Street stage while trampoline acrobats perform from the ground below. Set to traditional holiday music and with glittering costumes, Bright Lights on Ice brings the spirit of the season to downtown Las Vegas. 7:30, 8:30 and 9:30 p.m. nightly.

The Magical Forest has hundreds of trees frosted with millions of lights, holiday displays, "Forest Express" passenger trains, an antique carousel, a windswept trip down the Alpine Slide, a visit to Santa, hot cocoa and funnel cakes. The elves toil all year long to create this desert winter wonderland, which in 2006 drew more than 150,000 visitors. 5:30 to 10 p.m. nightly through December, 6300 W. Oakey Blvd, Las Vegas. $9, $7 (12 and younger), adult passport $14, child passport $12 (12 and younger). Passports include entry to Magical Forest and unlimited rides.
