North Shore surf may hit 16 feet tonight

Advertiser Staff

The longer today wears on, the higher the surf should get along north- and west-facing shores, the National Weather Service said.

Overnight surf of 4 feet to 7 feet along northern shores is expected to rise to 8 feet to 12 feet by this afternoon and 12 feet to 16 feet by tonight, the Weather Service said. Surf along west-facing shores will be rising to 6 feet to 9 feet by this afternoon and 8 feet to 12 feet by tonight.

The surf will be more tame along east- and south-facing shores. East shores will see surf 2 feet to 4 feet, and south shores will see surf 2 feet or less.

A series of northwest swells will continue arriving through the entire week. High-surf advisory thresholds are expected to be met tonight and possibly lasting through Thursday, then possibly meeting advisory thresholds again late Friday through the weekend. The largest of the swells is expected next weekend.

A small bump from the south is expected Tuesday night through Thursday, with another reinforcing bump arriving Thursday night into Friday night.
