USA Track & Field meeting set for Sheraton Waikiki

Advertiser Staff

About 1,000 people — including athletes, coaches, administrators, volunteers and officials — are expected to attend the USA Track & Field's annual meeting tomorrow through Sunday at the Sheraton Waikiki hotel.

The meeting and events will "celebrate the successes of 2007 and to plot the course of track and field, long distance running and race walking for the 2008 Olympic year," according to a USATF press release.

The event will culminate with the Jesse Owens Awards and Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on Saturday. This year's Hall of Fame inductees are Calvin Smith, Jane Frederick, Glenn Morris, George Woods and Elvin C. "Ducky" Drake.

In addition to the meetings, 1996 Olympic gold medalist and four-time world outdoor champion Allen Johnson, 2004 Olympic gold medalist Joanna Hayes, American record-holder Tiombe Hurd and 2004 Olympian Jamie Nieto will speak to students at Stevenson Middle School Wednesday. They will address healthy lifestyles, keeping active and living with integrity.
