Advertiser Staff

University of Hawai'i women's volleyball player Juliana Sanders was named Western Athletic Conference player of the week today.

Sanders had 25 kills in two wins over Loyola Marymount last week. On Tuesday, she hit for a .579 percentage against the Lions, and the following night hit for .647 while adding five blocks.

It's her third career WAC weekly honor and first of the season.

The Rainbow Wahine (26-5), seeded 11th in the NCAA Tournament, face Tennessee State (20-13) in the first round on Friday in Louisville, Ky.

Tennessee State, the Ohio Valley Conference champions, are making their tournament debut and have two freshmen who graduated from Kamehameha-Hawai'i in Makena Naho'oikaika and Precious Salazar.

Also today, the Rainbow Wahine moved up to ninth in the American Volleyball Coaches Association poll, its highest ranking of the season.
