Suspect in Big Island purse-snatching case charged

Advertiser Staff

Big Island police have arrested a Kamuela man in connection with a purse snatching in West Hawai'i last week.

A 68-year-old Japanese tourist reported that someone slipped her purse off her body while she was lying down along the Kailua, Kona oceanfront area around noon on Wednesday. The suspect then fled the area.

On Saturday, Kona Patrol officers arrested 25-year-old David K. Battle.

Battle was charged yesterday with second-degree theft. His bail was set at $5,000. He is being held in the Kona police cellblock pending his initial court appearance.
