Public hearing tomorrow on bed-and-breakfast proposals

Residents will sound off tomorrow on a proposal to impose new restrictions on bed-and-breakfast operations, while also lifting a ban on the establishments.The first of several public hearings on the amendments, which are set to go before the City Council, will start at 1:30 p.m. at the Neal Blaisdell Center Pikake Room.
The amendments would repeal a prohibition on opening new bed-and-breakfast homes, but would also limit the number of bed-and-breakfasts in a given area and require operators to obtain a conditional use permit, get support from 51 percent of neighbors within 500 feet, and provide one off-street parking space for each guest room. The amendments also set up a fine schedule for violators.
