Manoa Valley Theatre again extends 'Plaid Tidings'

By Wayne Harada

Here's some glad tidings: With tickets scarce and demand high, Manoa Valley Theatre has announced a second extension for its holiday-themed musical comedy, "Plaid Tidings," with new playdates at 8 p.m. Dec. 7 and 8 and 4 p.m. Dec. 9.

The show, a spin-off of "Forever Plaid," is a family musical about a nerdy but endearing but dearly departed plaid-clad foursome comprising Francis, Sparky, Jinx and Smudge, who sing four-part harmonies evocative of the pop acts from the 1960s and '70s as they're brought back to the cosmos. There are homages to Perry Como and Ed Sullivan alongside Christmas melodies crooned with goofball delight.

Director Andrew Sakaguchi plays Smudge, Mike Dupre is Jinx, Aaron Komo is Sparky and Sean Jones is Francis.

Seating is cabaret-style, with in-theater beverage service.

Tickets are $35, with $5 discounts for seniors and military; patrons 25 and under are $25. The show is suitable for youngsters 8 and older.
