NFL: Arizona's Pro Bowl safety out for season

Advertiser Staff

TEMPE, Ariz. — Cardinals Pro Bowl safety Adrian Wilson will undergo season-ending surgery on his injured right heel.

Wilson becomes the third Arizona defensive starter lost for the season in the past three weeks. The team placed cornerback Eric Green on injured reserve yesterday with a groin tear. He was injured in Sunday's overtime loss to San Francisco. Defensive end Bertrand Berry went down with a torn left triceps against Detroit on Nov. 11.

Wilson is known for his vicious hits in the secondary and effective blitzes. Wilson has played with soreness in the heel for some time, but it worsened to the point that he could not put pressure on it.

He sat out the last two games before seeing a specialist in Miami this week to confirm surgery was needed. He played 59 consecutive games before missing the Cincinnati game two weeks ago.

In nine games, Wilson had two interceptions, three quarterback pressures and two quarterback hits. He had 54 tackles, 33 of them solo.
