Mayor set to unveil Honolulu City Lights ornament

Advertiser Staff

Mayor Mufi Hannemann and first lady Gail Mukaihata-Hanneman will introduce Islanders to the 2007 Honolulu City Lights ornament noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at Macy's Ala Moana in the Ku'u Home department on level 4.

Named "Lanakila" ("Victory") for the royal train that once rode O'ahu rails, the ornament shows Shaka Santa and Mele (the beloved figures who perch on the Honolulu Hale fountain each year) riding the train around the big Christmas tree on Honolulu Hale grounds. The ornament is a nod to Queen Lili'uokalani, who enjoyed riding the train.

Ornament sales support the Friends of Honolulu City Lights, a nonprofit that helps pay for the lighting and other aspects of the city and county's holiday wonderland. Cost is $18 per ornament.
