Big surf pounding North Shore, bigger surf on the way

Advertiser Staff

The National Weather Service has issued a high-surf advisory for west- and north-facing shores on O'ahu.

Surf along north-facing shores rose to 15 feet to 20 feet overnight and is expected to decrease to 12 feet to 16 feet by this afternoon, forecasters said.

Surf along west-facing shores was expected to peak at 10 feet to 14 feet overnight and decrease to heights of 8 feet to 12 feet by this afternoon.

Surf along east- and west-facing shores will be 2 feet to 4 feet throughout the day.

The current northwest swell will gradually subside tomorrow, but will be replaced by an even larger northwest swell arriving late Friday. The new swell will likely produce surf heights above the high-surf warning threshold of 25 feet along north-facing shores by Saturday morning. Surf along north- and west-facing shores is expected to remain at or above the high-surf advisory threshold from Sunday through next Tuesday.
