World AIDS Day Saturday; events Friday and Saturday

Advertiser Staff

Sign wavers will line the sidewalks along the corner of Pali Highway and South Vineyard Street during morning drive-time Friday to remind commuters that Saturday is World AIDS Day and that, despite effective treatments, the AIDS epidemic is not over — in the Islands or around the globe.

(Volunteers are still being accepted for the 7:30-9:30 a.m. effort; call Melanie Moore, 521-2437, ext. 252 or e-mail mmoore@lifefoundation.org)

On Saturday, "Pandemic: Facing AIDS" will be shown at 6 p.m. in the University of Hawai'i Manoa's Art Auditorium. The Suzanne Richmond Crum Award will be presented, and the AIDS memorial quilts will be displayed. Free parking if you tell the parking attendant you are there for World AIDS Day.

Also: the film "Muzuzangabo" will be shown at 3 p.m. Saturday at The Queen's Medical Center, with reception and information tables.

And: Life Foundation is building an AIDS awareness display at Honolulu City Lights, on view from Saturday through the entire month of December, located between Honolulu Hale and the City Annex.
