Seized meth lab equipment to be donated to UH

Advertiser Staff

Agents with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement will join faculty members from the University of Hawai'i at Manoa's Chemistry Department at 10 a.m. today in a media event to display an array of laboratory equipment and chemicals being donated by the agency to the school.

The items were seized two years ago as part of a probe into a large-scale methamphetamine production scheme. The case made headlines after authorities discovered significant amounts of liquid methamphetamine and precursor chemicals inside a storage locker under the H-1 Freeway.

Representatives will discuss how UH-Manoa students will benefit from the donation and how federal officials were able to make it come about.
