CFB: Nevada DE Clark may miss rest of season

RENO, Nev. — Erics Clark, one of Nevada's best defensive linemen entering the season, is hospitalized with pneumonia and may miss the rest of the season, Wolf Pack coach Chris Ault said today.

"I think he's done for the year," Ault told about 175 boosters at his weekly Quarterback Luncheon at a Reno hotel-casino.

"At least, I don't want him back until he can get his weight back. He's still in the hospital," he said.

Clark, a 6-foot-6, 270 pound senior from Oceanside, Calif., started eight games last year and had 19 tackles. In two games this season, he's had five tackles, including one for a loss and one quarterback sack. He did not play in Saturday's 27-20 win over UNLV.

"It's very serious pneumonia," Ault said. "We had hoped last week it was a flu bug and typical football view, `Hey, he'll be back.' But that's not going to happen."

Nevada (2-2) also will host Fresno State (2-2) on Saturday without Jonathon Amaya, a sophomore starting defensive back who strained his knee and left in the first quarter against UNLV.

"That's a big loss for us," said Ault, who said senior cornerback Paul Pratt is the only one in the defensive backfield with more playing experience than Amaya.

Senior Devon Walker, who replaced him against UNLV, likely will start in his place against Fresno State, the coach said.

"When the flag drops, somebody has got to pick it up and keep going," he said.

Dominic Green, a 6-foot-3, 295-pound offensive lineman who is on the national watch list for the Dave Rimington Trophy, played his first game against UNLV after missing the first three with a broken foot. He traded off at center with starter Josh Catapano and also played offensive guard, and is likely to do the same against the Bulldogs, Ault said.

"He did OK for his first game," he said.

Ault said his team suffered no other significant new injuries against UNLV.
