Nia fitness classes offered by expert

Nia, a body-mind-fitness program, is a blend of Eastern (Tai Chi, meditation, yoga and martial arts) and Western (dance, psychology and aerobics) forms of movements, concepts and philosophies.

Ken Gilbert of Santa Barbara, a Nia black belt education trainer, is coming to Honolulu for a series of public classes at the Nu'uanu YMCA and the Honolulu Club, and to teach a seven-day Nia White Belt Intensive training program, Thursday through Saturday and Oct. 12 to 14 at the Honolulu Club:

i A workshop and class for the general public Thursday at the Nu'uanu YMCA. The workshop is noon to 3 p.m.; $30 members, $40 non-members). The class is 5:10 to 6:10 p.m.; $10 members, $20 non-members. Attend both events; $35 members, $55 non-members. For information and registration, call Eden Zamarin at 541-5252.

i Public classes at the Honolulu Club: Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at noon, Friday through Sunday, and Oct. 12, 13 and 14. For non-members, the drop-in fee is $20 per class and three classes cost $55 or six for $100. Members pay for the Friday and Sunday classes at a drop-in fee of $10 per class or $35 for the series.
