CFB: Coach won't say if Holbrook will play at Boise St.

Associated Press

LAS CRUCES, N.M. — New Mexico State's Chase Holbrook is nursing injured ribs, but coach Hal Mumme wouldn't offer details Monday on the nature of the injury or say whether his quarterback will be ready for Sunday night's game at Boise State.

"I really can't answer that. We'll just have to figure it out as the week goes on," Mumme said during the Western Athletic Conference coaches teleconference.

Holbrook was hit midway through the fourth quarter of last weekend's 20-17 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff. He stayed on the ground briefly before being escorted to the sidelines by the team's medical staff.

"He took a shot on a blitz, so he got shook up pretty good," Mumme said. "I'm not going to talk about it more than that."

Holbrook returned with 56 seconds remaining and directed a 35-yard drive, capped by Paul Young's 37-yard field goal. Holbrook was 4-of-6 on the drive, including an 18-yard strike to Wes Neiman on third-and-5 to move into field goal range.

Holbrook has passed for 1,687 yards, 14 touchdowns and completed 126-of-166 attempts this season. Last fall, he had 4,619 yards passing and 4,541 total yards, setting NCAA records for a sophomore to break Ty Detmer's marks at BYU in 1989.
