Maori dance, song fest nears

Proud, passionate chanting and thunderous stomping will fill the Polynesian Cultural Center's Pacific Theater beginning at 9 a.m. Oct. 13, for the annual Maori Song and Dance Competition for keiki. This year a new format will be implemented with keiki and adult competitions alternating every year.

This year groups from O'ahu and Kaua'i will compete in two new categories: Haka Hard, where competitors perform original work, and Poi E, done with poi ball.

The program includes a performance by the R&B group Adeaze.
