Shogun restaurant to close at end on Dec. 1

Pacific Beach Corp. yesterday announced that Shogun Restaurant Waikiki's Pacific Beach Hotel, will close December 1.That's the word from the affiliate of HTH Corporation, which assumes management of the Pacific Beach Hotel on Dec. 1.
"The Shogun concept was very successful since its inception however, in the last several years it has not generated the customer numbers that it had in the past," said Robert "Mick" Minicola, HTH Corporation regional vice president of operations.
He declined to specify what restaurant might replace the 148-seat Shogun. "We are looking at various exciting, new concepts for the space," he said.
Minicola said the restaurant has 55 employees. He said the corporation is receiving employee applications for positions in all departments of the hotel when the company resumes management of the 837-room hotel on Dec. 1.
The hotel recently has been managed by PBH Management LLC, an affiliate of Outrigger Enterprises. It is in engaged in an ongoing labor dispute.
Minicola said, "Soon we will know what positions are available in other departments. We are hopeful that many of the Shogun employees will find positions within the hotel."
Customers who have holiday reservations at the third-floor, Japanese cuisine restaurant will be offered alternative reservations at either the hotel's Neptune's Garden restaurant or Oceanarium, a restaurant with a three-story structure with 280,000 gallons of seawater.
